What Is Carboxytherapy?

Carboxytherapy is a simple administration of carbon dioxide [CO2] gas a proven technique that can dramatically improve the appearance of cellulite, dark under-eye circles & stretch marks. How Is Carboxytherapy Performed?

It is a non-surgical method. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is infiltrated into the subcutaneous tissue through a tiny 30G needle (0.3mm in diameter). From the injection point, the carbon dioxide diffuses easily into adjacent tissues.

How does Carboxytherapy Work?

When carbon dioxide is administered for the treatment of cellulite it mechanically kills the fat cells by making them burst. Secondly, it also has a strong vasodilator effect (causes dilation of blood vessels) on the capillaries in the area. Wider vessels mean bigger and stronger blood flow to the area, which means more oxygen. The increase in oxygen is important because it eliminates the built up fluid from between the cells. The end result is fewer fat cells and firmer subcutaneous tissue.

Carboxytherapy Treatment for Cellulite Reduction

To receive the best treatment with optimum results patients may require anywhere from 8 to 20 sessions more or less depending on the extent of the cellulite. Taking about 15 to 20 minutes to complete each session, treatments should be administered in 1 or 2 week intervals for best results.

Carboxytherapy Treatment for Stretch Marks

Treatments for stretch marks and wrinkles may require 4 to 6 sessions that are repeated once a month

Carboxytherapy Treatment for Improving Dark Under-Eye Circles

The most popular choice for Carboxytherapy is improving dark under-eye circles. In most cases dark under eye circles are due to poor blood flow &congestion beneath the lower eye lids which leads to the darker appearance, decreased collagen & wrinkle increase. The cause of this condition is usually due when the tear ducts become congested and cannot drain from the eyelids to into the nose due to nasal congestion, season allergies, previous nasal fractures or a deviated septum resulting in the bluish appearance referred as “allergic shiners”.

The series of Carboxytherapy treatment improves the bluish cast by increasing the blood flow of the lower eyelids & increasing collagen fibers thus reducing eye wrinkles & leaving you with a healthy pink tone.

Depending on the severity of the condition 6 to 10 sessions once a week is the usual treatment protocol to receive maximum benefits which can last from 6 months to a year depending on the patient.

Is There Downtime?

There are no restrictions on any activities after the treatment. You can go right back to what you were doing.

Is The Treatment Painful?

No. Some patients can experience a light tingling sensation near the injection site. It disappears within a matter of seconds. As a result of the increased circulation, the area surrounding the injection site may feel warmer for 10 to 20 minutes.

How Long Does The Benefits Last?

This depends entirely on you. If you choose to follow a healthy diet complemented by regular exercise, the cellulite can stay away for years. If you tend to succumb to culinary temptations or never find the time for exercise, the cellulite will return much quicker. On average, it’ll be 5 to 6 months before you see it starting to creep back in. It’s best to nip it in the bud at this stage. If you’re vigilant, 3 to 5 sessions will get you back to smooth firm skin.

How Long Before You See An Improvement?

Depending on the type of treatment being performed and the patient’s current condition; results and number of sessions needed vary from patient to patient.  But usually after the 5th session or so you will start to see that your skin looks noticeably healthier. Around the 8-10 session mark, you will appreciate that your subcutaneous tissue is firmer. Before the treatment program ends you will have firmer, healthier looking skin.

Is Carbon Dioxide Toxic?

No. Carbon dioxide is naturally produced by the cells in our bodies every day of our life. It is a byproduct of metabolism. It is transported in the blood and exhaled through the lung.

How Was Carboxytherapy Discovered?

In the early 1900’s at the French Royal Spas guests would frequently bath in the enriched carbon dioxide pools they soon discovered wounds were healing faster than normal since carbon dioxide speeds up the healing process by increasing blood circulation.  Thus discovering carbon dioxide could be used for different therapeutic treatments known today as Carboxytherapy.
